I got a two million tile in 2048

Community iconc/nowhereelsetoshare@sh.itjust.works by
SatyrSack@quokk.au

Whenever I want to just shut my brain off and mindlessly play a game, I have this game of 2048 on a 7x7 grid on my phone. I have been playing this same ongoing grid nearly every day, a few minutes at a time, for literally months. Because it is on a much larger grid than the standard 4x4, it takes nearly zero thought/effort and is difficult to actually lose (though definitely not impossible). Recently, I finally achieved a tile valued at 2,097,152. To be clear: you probably shouldn’t be too impressed by this. It really takes no skill to do this, just a lot of time. I thought someone might find this mildly interesting or something.

Once the site of an internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II, Camp East Montana is made up of six long tents at the Fort Bliss Army base outside of El Paso. On an average day, the facility holds around 3,000 detainees who are living in harsh conditions: They lack sufficient food and often go without proper medical care, according to AP’s review of 130 calls made to 911. Those calls took place in just about five months—from when the tents were quickly constructed in mid-August to January 20.

I remember a couple of years ago I read up about the details on how QR codes are created. Specifically the masks that are added at the end to ensure that there aren’t any areas with too much whitespace or something that ends up inadvertently looking like the corner of a QR code (that square inside a square thing).

YSK: You Don't Actually Have A 'Lizard Brain', Evolutionary Study Reveals (sciencealert.com)

The idea of the lizard brain first emerged and rose to popularity in the 1960s and 1970s, based on comparative anatomical studies. Parts of the mammalian brain, neuroscientist Paul MacLean noticed, were very similar to parts of the reptilian brain. This led him to the conclusion that the brain had evolved in stages, after life moved to land.

We’re Training Students To Write Worse To Prove They’re Not Robots, And It’s Pushing Them To Use More AI (techdirt.com)

About a year and a half ago, I wrote about my kid’s experience with an AI checker tool that was pre-installed on a school-issued Chromebook. The assignment had been to write an essay about Kurt Vonnegut’s Harrison Bergeron—a story about a dystopian society that enforces “equality” by handicapping anyone who excels—and the AI detection tool flagged the essay as “18% AI written.” The culprit? Using the word “devoid.” When the word was swapped out for “without,” the score magically dropped to 0%.
