For context, I am creating a HOI4-style strategy game set in the Cold War. The battles will likely be turn-based rather than involving maneuvering troops on the map.
I’m not a game dev so please forgive me if this is the wrong place for this type of question but I’m looking for some resources to try and understand why games take so long to compile.
This is really good if you’re wondering what a publishing company’s contract might look like. They published it to give gamedevs an idea of what they should expect.
A few years ago I decided to fix my biggest gripe with Unity’s InputSystem: there is no intuitive and fuss-free way of determining which UI, character controller, popup, etc. should be receiving inputs at any given time.
Sure, the Action Maps are a great baseline for handling this since they let you assign a set of inputs to each given system; but you still have to make sure to enable and disable them at the correct moment. This can be easy in a small project, but when you have dozens of systems and UIs to contend with; it can get kind of messy.
Creating a good (and successful!) game is beyond challenging, especially in our trying times. What’s been your experience with balancing different aspects of your own projects?
I am creating a strategy game similar to Hearts of Iron IV that is set during the cold war. Each nation will have their own focus trees, and technologies need to be researched as well. The twist is, rather than maneuvering troops on the ground, war will instead be turn-based, like Pokemon battles. My issue now is I need to plan out how war will feel like, whether it’s one large battle or many smaller battles.

CtrlAssist v0.4.0 introduces demultiplexing functionality along with enhancements to the system tray and rumble targeting. The updated README now features FAQ and Cookbook sections with practical examples, such as the “Double Agent Tag Team” scenario, where a single assist controller uses a demux to help multiple primary players across separate mux instances, and the “Couch Co-Op Swap” scenario, in which two players take turns assisting each other using toggle mode, with force feedback following the currently active controller by default.
Old one started to struggle at 5000 sprites, new one runs above 170FPS with 10000 spites (as long it doesn't need to switch context too much between shaders and textures), although it can tank to 60 if per-pixel collision detection is needed. Hit-box detection is already done, the likely issue is that in this example, it needs to pull the collision shapes too much (bit arrays, each line is aligned to 64 pixel wide to speed up checks as much as possible by ANDing together chunks, then check the result for non-zero value).
I finished this first game of mine about three months ago. Back then i was too anxious to post it. I would love some feedback on it generally. i am aware of some bugs, and generally know how to do it better nowadays, but i didn't want to touch the code anymore. I'd describe myself as Gamedesigner first, coder second, and artist last. so i would be especially interested in how the game feels to you.

I have no real experience in art but yet i want to make projects like video games. What are some free ways to make 2d assets and packs for free, how do i learn, what style should i study, where do i find reference images/poses? etc.
I'm making a game about the 12 Greek Olympian gods. The idea is that Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from the gods, instructs you, a duck, to travel to the realms of each god and steal their "fire" for the humans (e.g. mastery of the seas from Poseidon). It is a mix of platforming and puzzles where you can use the abilities of some of the nature deities (the four winds, Helios the all-seeing sun god, and Achelous the river god)
I wanted to become a game developer for some time, and even tried following some tutorials for making video games, but i quit it due to not understanding the coding part, i did not really understand what i was doing.

I recently noticed video about the SpacetimeDB and how it is used for the backend of Bitcraft. I got interested in that and noticed that it has (unofficial) Godot support. Have anyone tried to use this (or SpacetimeDB in general)?
Have you ever found yourself in a conversation with people about Valve's anti-competitive practices? Well, I have. And I defended Valve's requirement to let customers choose their preferred storefront when buying games, as long as Steam keys were involved. After all, you end up getting to use all of Steam's features and services when you activate the game on Steam. We can argue about this, but it turns out, that was a red herring!

Saw it on flathub, went on their site and saw that some popular games used it like knockout city, forza horizon 5, century age of ashes, etc. Was wondering if anyone uses it since I've never heard of it, and don't see much on reddit about it.
How do you experience good and bad reviews and feedback on your games? Are you ecstatic or proud when reading positive reviews? Is it difficult to read reviews listing a lot of negative points?
