I think I finally want to buy my own camera. I usually used my dad’s Nikon but let’s just say I’m more comfortable having my own.
I’m no photographer but I might learn a thing or two and this might just become a nice hobby for when I’m bored and just walk around town.
Can you guys help me pick a good starting camera? Nothing too fancy…I remember Canon used to be all the rage but I’m guessing times have changed since 2016.
Anyway, any input or advice you can give is appreciated so I might start planning the buy.

When you apply a LUT in post, on Darktable for example, do you apply it to the raw file or do you do some preprocessing, like applying the camera profile beforehand?

I’m looking for something like this TOPDON TC004 Mini Thermal Imaging Camera, except ideally I’d like one that runs on (rechargeable) AA batteries. Does such a device exist?
I recently purchased an M. Zuiko 17mm f1.2 lens after reading it’s the sharpest lens in the micro four thirds system. I have the 25mm f1.2, and it’s been wonderful – even wide open – but all the technical lens tests say it is a step below the 17mm f1.2 and the 45mm f1.2 in terms of sharpness.

Guys, I just learned about this new FOSS editor called "RapidRAW" on GitHub, and this might well be the Lightroom (non-Classic) killer as Darktable is to Lightroom Classic. See, as much as I love Darktable for its power and feature set, most of my non-tech photographer friends have mentioned how its power comes at the cost of complexity even beyond LrC. Yes, I love DT, but I do have to agree – It can be overwhelming to a newer user not as familiar with LrC or wanting to learn a whole new program just for quick edits.

I am new here. I don’t have a camera now, but I borrowed my dad’s Nikon.
I felt inspired to record the textures and colours of the materials I found around my town during my walks
I got this lens from a charity shop, it’s a healios 44-3. I’ve kept it for years intending to get a camera and adaptor for it one day but it has this sort of cotton strand looking stuff on the middle element.
I'm still figuring out how to best do this, but I'm amazed at the pictures I can get! This is the JPEG straight from the camera, so no editing other than the stacking and tweaks the camera does. I almost exclusively use natural light, but I'm probably going to need to grab something for this type of thing.

Hi! I have been trying to learn to take pleasing photos with the gameboy camera. It’s quite tricky due to limited resolution and aspect ratio but super fun!
Is there anything I can look to do to improve the framing or quality of my shots?
I am not knowledgeable when it comes to photography but I often find myself looking up at the beautiful night sky while out at sea and away from light pollution, and would really like to capture it somehow. Video or photo, either would be swell. The little I know tells me this really isn’t going to be possible on a boat, what with all the rocking. I was just wondering if anybody has any ideas/ camera recommendations or shall I just keep it as a beautiful memory?
Found a fox family a few weeks back, next to the metro line in Helsinki, Finland.
I spent a whole hour looking at them, the youngsters spent all that time just playing, and getting scared every 5 minutes when the metro went by, going to hide under those planks they're standing on in that photo.
Disclosure: I do street photography on Fuji Instax color and monochrome, B&W film, and color and B&W edited digital. My username is accurate, I have low vision.
Anyone have recommendations for an affordable, decent quality slide scanner? I have boxes of 35mm slides I would like to revisit, to post online or maybe make small prints from. Thanks
