I have been using Bitwarden for around 7~ years. Subscription for this long too, at 10USD p/year. I will be switching due to lack of transparency, and would love to hear others thoughts on this.

LinkedIn locked me out of my own account. The only way back is through Persona — a third-party service that wants a photo of my passport, a scan of my face, and a recording of my movements (liveness detection: turn your head, follow the dot, so a still photo can’t stand in for me). The stated reason: “unusual activity.” The real reason, of course, is big tech spearheading a movement toward absolute control over people.

Hey everyone! I’m making this post just to share my experience switching from iPhone to grapheneos. My experience may be a little different than others, because I was already using all open source apps if possible, so moving apps wasn’t horrible.(only took me like 2 days.) Moving my imsg contacts to signal fucking sucks though. Especially when they say no, and you gotta coax them ugh.
This is hardly an alternative to Signal (or any other secure messaging app). It’s a work in progress and “secure and private” is the general goal. Feel free to reach out for clarity instead of diving into the docs/code.
Data held for humanitarian work is data, and that makes it a target. Seems like it would be difficult to get substantial investment into security for aid organizations (why not feed more folks instead?)…
I have been using the hosts file based ad blocker AdAway for at least two years. It runs on my smartphones and tablet, all rooted, thus I can run a VPN simultaneously. Since it has always worked flawlessly, I never really took the time to compare it to other similar apps.

A new, widespread wave of cyberattacks is actively targeting Signal users, specifically aiming to compromise and steal account backups. Because Signal chats are end-to-end encrypted on device, hackers are shifting focus to where that data might be stored less securely (like cloud backups or via phishing/credential stuffing attacks to gain account access).

The most valuable argument against privacy, is it being abused by criminals. It’s foundational to the “I have nothing to hide” fallacy: waived by those, conditioned into believing, mass-surveillance being a proportional compromise; if potentially elevating their sense of “safety”. What they fail to recognize however, is mass-surveillance simply being an escalation, of the fundamentally flawed enforcement model: responsible for their lack of confidence in it. Enforcement of laws should be the exception, not the rule; otherwise conflicting incentives are ought to be addressed first (primarily: large discrepancies in socio-economics, and in turn all that stems from it).
