There was a time when people didn’t have a choice for what they watched on tv. They had to watch whatever was on or nothing. Now you can watch almost anything. Some things you can only watch if you’re willing to pay for it but still, you have a lot of options. You have endless options, more than you probably have time to watch. And yet there are still people who throw a fit that shows and movies are made that don’t appeal to them. It’s so easy to not watch the thing you dislike and pick something else, but some people still want everything made with them in mind. Some people are never happy with anything they watch.

404media, The Intercept, Status Coup News, Where’s Your Ed At, Andrew Callahan’s Channel 5, Defector, the smattering of True Crime podcasts and journals… increasingly, it feels like if you want to know what the hell is going on in the world, you have to go to some indie website or YouTube channel with six substack reporters in a trench coat.

…and they assume that the pointing device is a mouse.

Also that there’s a conspiracy from the atheist tech elites to ruin Christmas by making electricity so expensive no one wants to put up Christmas lights

There’s a financial ‘sweet spot’ for my kids regarding when i pass. Before retirement we’re still adding to savings. After retirement it gets tricky with health and lifestyle.

I was rewatching the TV show Superman & Lois. In that show, Clark and Lois have twin boys who are 16. Their son Jonathan Kent was taking an illegal super drug called “X-Kryptonite”, and Lois and Clark blew up at him. I wonder if they have this energy for abortion because I know damn well Clark and Lois are pro-choice.

As I was thinking about how fun it would be to have a job where you solve puzzles in the world, it struct me that media never depicts archeology in a real light. My short search seemed to confirm my thoughts. Most ancient sites are not guarded by elaborate traps or secret riddles to get in. From what I’ve found there were some crossbows here and there. Some rare hidden rooms with a lot treasure, but again, no traps.

That’s such a small number. I bet there might be one or two near you even. You can just Google it!

And if it is a group mind, like a Social Media Community, then it is a thousand people arguing all the time (not so much packed into the girl like a clowncar as livestreaming her senses and flesh from hell or whatever). Smart, dumb, strong and weak as communities tend to be. And utterly dependent upon language to operate, which explains that. And what you are speaking to is just a gestalt. Maybe the end product of a messy political process.

The seven deadly sins are all things that have a serious negative impact on you and your life if you give into them too much. They’re all very general habits/feelings/desires that most people feel/experience which can lead you to hurt yourself and/or others, and haste/impatience checks both those boxes.

Ok hear me out, you have an extension on your browser, if you see some ai slop website, you can flag it. Then, like sponsorblock it doesn’t appear and gets just zapped. It could also work on youtube and other major websites, you flag some post, then it doesn’t appear for other users.

We really need a community where you can just post about anything that you’re really passionate about, which you’re currently researching/thinking about, sothat others can learn something about it as well and maybe discuss about it.

When you are a penny stock trader, you basically are doing stocks for poor and low-income people. Imagine trying to break into the finance world, and all you do is penny stocks for fucking poor people.

Look, if you’re the only one texting your so-called “friends” to check in, make plans, or just say what’s up, then let’s be real—they’re not actually your friends. Friendship is supposed to be a two-way street, but if you’re the only one driving, what’s even the point?

I have when a comment makes multiple good points then there’s one part where was terrible so I’m torn in whether or not to upvote or downvote it.

US social media usually doesn’t like sharing their actual human traffic, and bots are now difficult to detect due to racks of phones controlled by software and other methods.

To clarify: I’m not talking about the popular conception of the Turing test as something like the Voight-Kampff test, meant to catch rogue AIs—but Turing’s original test, meant for AI designers to evaluate their own machines. In particular, I’m assuming the designers know their machine well enough to distinguish between a true inability and a feigned one (or to construct the test in a way that motivates the machine to make a genuine attempt).

Just to put things into proportion:

Our idea of “warm” colors is just a historical accident. Wood burns orange because it produces soot, which glows orange in the flame. Same applies to candles too, because there’s never enough oxygen to burn all the carbon.

Let’s be real: most people don’t help others in need even when they are able to. People who donate to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or volunteer with homeless people do so for performative reasons or to just look good in front of someone; in the end, they are doing so for their own self-interest.

If you have a friend with a toddler and they are terminally or otherwise ill and you are financially able to help but choose not to because you don’t care, that doesn’t make you a “bad person”. Just because someone got themselves in some shit doesn’t mean you have to go and deal with it.

When upper-class wealthy people don’t want to date anyone lower, working, middle or even upper-middle class people will claim “classism”, but when middle-class or “normal” people claim they don’t want to date a retail worker or janitor, no one has an issue.

This can be said for a lot of things, but I will use private school as an example. There was a Reddit post not too long ago about middle-class parents whose teen got a scholarship to go to an exclusive, elite private school, like an upper-class, six-figure-tuition, multi-millionaire-type school, and to no one’s surprise, their kid not only got bullied badly, but the rich kids who didn’t bully them just shunned them. It was an EXTREMELY classist school, and the parent was asking, “What do I do?!” Umm, how about taking your kid out? If the kid is smart enough to get a scholarship, then they could easily get into a good school with good grades. If the kid is in an environment where they get bullied, everyone hates them. They are insecure because they are surrounded by ultra-rich kids; their performance will be poor. And also, why are you shocked, Pikachu-faced, when you sent your kid here knowing there is a high probability the kid would get bullied?

Flannel shirt is fine, but flannel pants are pajamas are only for wearing inside. A T-shirt made of jersey material is fine to be worn out, but thin jersey pants are pajamas and should only be worn at home, so says conventional wisdom.

I’m talking about these things here:

In the movie average guy has been transported into society of stupids. But if you’re genius, you see all the idiocies of modern society, all the stupidity of average Joe, and you have no choice but to play the stupid game of life in accordance with dumb laws that this dumb society managed to create

When I was young and starting out with computers, programming, BBS’ and later the early internet, technology was something that expanded my mind, helped me to research, learn new skills, and meet people and have interesting conversations. Something decentralized that put power into the hands of the little guy who could start his own business venture with his PC or expand his skillset.

They don’t match up entirely to 1984, but it feels like these nations are going to gobble up countries like Hungry Hungry Hippos.
